Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
