Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best poker players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in cash games?
