Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
