Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While competing in web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player.
