Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
