Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
