Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
