Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
