Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
