Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He usually plays in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
