Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi/low starts like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of entrants often get baffled. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use exactly three cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in just about every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
While it seems complex at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming array of betting choices and seeing that you have numerous players shooting for the high, as well as a few trying for the low hand.
