Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players often get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult at the outset, after a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming array of betting options and owing to the fact that you have several players shooting for the high hand, along with several battling for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi lo.
