Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
