Pai Gow uses 53 cards; the normal 52-card standard deck and one joker. The player is assigned 7 cards face up and the croupier is dealt 7 cards faces hidden.
A five card hand and one two card hand must be put together from the 7 cards dealt, the five card hand has to be higher than the two card hand. To win, a player is required to have both of his hand totals to be larger than the houses.
