Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
