Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he played countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by being an assistant for the poker players. He judged he possibly could better his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to get more sleep and focus even more on poker.
The real improvement in his abilities happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would frequently challenge one another. Howard had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie to head out to Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Sin City in 1993 and participated in money games for the next 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to play more tournaments.
