Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
