Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
