Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
